Situation.

Intellihub has been at the forefront of the Smart Meter rollout taking Australia by storm. To facilitate the rollout, Intellihub engaged Field Service Providers (FSPs) across Australia to perform customer installations. To meet customer order requirements, Intellihub distributed inventory into the FSPs supply chain.

This approach presented various issues:

  • Multiple FSP’s with different distribution network and overlapping warehouses in the same geographic area
  • Reduced visibility and limited control of assets from distribution to installation, increasing risk of ‘lost stock’.
  • FSP  behaviour on over ordering and lack of robust scanning system and process.

This approach increased stock across the network that wasn’t always positioned in the best location to improve efficient installations and customer outcomes.

These challenges highlighted a need for Intellihub to find a partner who was Always On to improve inventory management and last mile deliveries. Empowering Intellihub and the FSP's to focus their attention on installation and customer success, while Droppoint gets the right part, to the right place, at the right time.

Solution.

Droppoint collaborated closely with key stakeholders and developed a comprehensive inventory management system tailored to each FSP's unique needs. This included:​

  • Strategic Inventory Hubs: Using historical and predictive analysis, Droppoint pinpointed optimal locations for inventory collection, ensuring easy access for technicians whilst minimising retrieval time.
  • Reliable Replenishment: Droppoint leveraged transport time data to guarantee technicians always had the necessary stock, preventing delays and maximising productivity, supporting a lean stock holding model.
  • Customised Configurations: Each inventory location was configured to FSP specifications, including dedicated areas for returns, refurbishment, and disposal. Security was prioritised with two-factor authentication, ensuring only authorised personnel could access materials.
  • End-to-End Visibility: Our layered platform provides complete transparency across the entire supply chain, from dispatch to installation. This gives Intellihub real-time insights into inventory consumption and lifecycle, enabling data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
